Dr. Lindsay Ackerman founded SKINTELLAGENT: Dermatology Undressed, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to show the world that skin findings are anything but skin deep. Drawing on more than two decades in clinical and academic dermatology, she built SKINTELLAGENT to translate what she sees in the exam room, skin as an early warning system for serious internal disease, into media the public and medical professionals can actually use.

Clinical & Academic Background
Dr. Ackerman earned her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, completed her dermatology residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, and followed it with an advanced fellowship in immunodermatology and clinical education, during which she also served as a clinical instructor in Tulane's Department of Dermatology.
She is a practicing dermatologist and Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, where she trains medical students and resident physicians. In 2008, she founded a Phoenix-based medical dermatology practice that has since grown into a large-dermatology group practice, where she continues to see patients with complex and rare dermatologic conditions, and serves as medical director of a large clinical research institute.
Why She Founded SKINTELLAGENT
Across her career, Dr. Ackerman has seen how often a skin finding is the first visible sign of something happening deeper in the body, and how often that connection gets missed because dermatology is misunderstood as purely of things ‘external’ or ‘cosmetic’. SKINTELLAGENT is her answer to that gap: an educational docuseries to show real cases where a dermatologic clue led to an earlier, life-changing diagnosis; a podcast to engage relevant healthcare leaders on topics of high-interest for public consumption; and two social programming mini-series: Rise & Opine - built cut through trends, and focus on science; and Spot On: built to demonstrate the remarkably nuanced presentations of skin cancer..
Under her leadership, SKINTELLAGENT partners with an eight-member board spanning medicine, business, ethics, and communications to reach both the public and medical professionals, with the goal of speeding up diagnosis, lowering healthcare costs, reducing stigma associated with skin disease, and ensuring the future workforce in medical dermatology is ready, willing, and able, well into the future.

Dr. Ackerman is a wife and mother of three. Her work at SKINTELLAGENT: Dermatology Undressed is an extension of the same goal that drives her daily clinical practice: ensuring that the privilege she was granted to be educated with a skillset is used to help the greatest number of people get the most out of it!
